Father Marcos Enrique's journey of faith and service is deeply rooted in his upbringing in Spain as the eldest of 11 children in a family devoted to the Neocatechumenal Way. From a young age, he experienced the Church not just as an institution, but as a mother guiding every aspect of life through the lens of faith.
At the age of 12, his family's commitment to serving the Church led them to move to Boston, answering a call for missionary families to assist with the Spanish Apostolate. Adjusting to life in a new country, Father Enrique faced challenges such as learning English and dealing with bullying. However, the support of the Church and the Neocatechumenal community helped him navigate these difficulties.
After graduating from high school, Father Enrique entered the Redemptoris Mater Seminary in Washington, D.C., and earned a bachelor's degree in philosophy from the Catholic University of America. His vocation journey included a period of questioning and discernment, which led him to work at North Cambridge Catholic High School, later Cristo Rey High School. There, he served as director of admissions, helping many students and their families navigate both educational and spiritual challenges.
Inspired by his work with students seeking the sacraments, Father Enrique felt called to the priesthood once more. After a transformative retreat in the Holy Land, he returned to Boston and entered St. John Seminary in 2015.
Father Enrique was ordained a priest in 2019 and served as parochial vicar at Saint Mark in Dorchester. After five years of dedicated service, he was named pastor of Saint Mark by Cardinal Seán O'Malley in the summer of 2024, shortly before the Cardinal's retirement.
Father Enrique's life is a testament to the power of faith, community, and the call to serve. His journey, marked by both personal and pastoral challenges, reflects his deep commitment to his parish and his desire to share the love of Christ with all.
